The Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment (MYDE)

The Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment (MYDE) was established by Executive Instrument 1 (E.I. 1, 2025) Civil Service (Ministries) (Amendment Instrument, 2025) and sections 11 & 13 of the Civil Service Law, 1993 (PNDC Law 327) as amended, to formulate and implement policies that promote youth development and empowerment.

It is responsible for creating enabling environments that equip youth with skills, opportunities, and resources to participate in national and international development. The general objective for its establishment is to have a Ministry responsible for policy formulation, coordination and monitoring and evaluation, as well as provide leadership and technical direction for the implementation of Government policies for youth development and empowerment.

Mission

Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment (MYDE) exists to initiate, coordinate, facilitate and strengthen the formulation and implementation of policies, plans, programmes and projects, build bonds and synergies with the private and public sectors in the youth ecosystem for empowering the youth to be competitive and contributing meaningfully to National and global development by using innovative approaches and professionalised staff.

FUNCTIONS

Initiate, formulate, review and implement policies to develop and empower the youth.

Foster youth- led initiatives and entrepreneurship.

Coordinate programmes within the youth ecosystem

To promote youth participation in governance and decision – making processes.

Provide technical advice to the government and other stakeholders on issues relating to youth development and empowerment.

Conduct research in the youth ecosystem

Promote inclusivity in youth programmes and policies

Empower young people with knowledge and skill
